Millennia ago, the goddess Persuasion was imprisoned for defying the heavens. Now, with the help of an old ally, she hopes to break free.
Fresh from the events of The Eighth Born, wielder Rhyen of Avernade and his friends flee the nation of Conden, now under the control of Taida, a powerful wielder whose attempt to free Persuasion shattered the mighty Pankara Stone.
To defeat Taida, Rhyen needs to reconstruct the Pankara Stone. It’s a risky move—to free Persuasion, Taida also needs the Stone restored.
As Rhyen and his companions seek out shards in the depths of the earth and the Elemental Kingdom of Death, the young sorcerer struggles to master his Opposite, the madness that lies within every wielder. He also finds himself drawing closer to Caliena, the young farm girl who chose to accompany him into danger.
Acting on his feelings is impossible. Wielders live far longer than ordinary humans, but Rhyen still finds himself tempted. And ever present on the periphery of his awareness is the Dark Rider, a shadowy figure who has haunted Rhyen since childhood, and who prepares to teach the young wielder the meaning of loss.

I was really looking forward to this one after reading the first in the series. And truth be told, it was an okay read. It suffers from second book syndrome pretty badly and it gets really preachy about political opinions on society somewhere in the middle.I was disgusted enough by the latter to literally put it down for six months. I eventually forced myself to finish reading it out of pure OCD for not having finished what I started. It's a shame because I was otherwise generally digging the plot of the series. The next volume would have been on my "must read" list until this one turned me off so badly. Now, it's on my "plan C" list. (Meaning it better be dirt cheap and I can't find a single other new book to read that sounds even halfway interesting and I am expecting to be laying around for a week).
2.5 stars for decent plot and good editing (rounded up to 3 since Amazon won't let me give the half). The preaching and second book syndrome cost it 2 stars.

The Dark Rider Book II of the Pankaran Chronicles eBook CS Night Reviews
I like these books but find them somewhat thin on plot/character creation.
Loved it. When is book 3 coming out?
Honestly, it's rather dull.
The first 20% of the book is a rehash with...nothing happening. Seriously, nothing happens. I could tell you, "They get on a boat" and you'd be no worse off. In fact, you might have more tension than a normal reader does.
One of the biggest problems I have with the book is honestly, most of the characters have become unlikable. They're annoying. Grating. They pull at my nerves like a tooth ache. You just keep running your tongue over it to enjoy the pain.
First book was alot better. I am struggling to finish it. There is way to much rehashing over and over. Bring us up to date and then move on.
This is a great book. Full of excitement.
This is easily the best book I have read! Brilliant plot, emotional writing, and characters you just have to fall in love with. My entire body is aching for the final book! I just need to see how the emotional story ends. So many questions and so little answers. All I can say is I recommend this great book to anyone, and hope the next book comes out very soon! I can't wait!
I hated the main character, I hated the side characters, and I hated the book in general.
While the writing is good, the story is boring and the characters are all complete idiots.
I skipped through as much of the book as I could just to get it over with.
